For Designers

Texture, Colour, and How It Photographs

Full-size samples the same week, and honest advice about what a material does in a real room rather than on a moodboard.

Designers get the worst version of most suppliers — a chip box and a catalogue. Miami Stone Veneer Specialists sends full-size pieces, because a 4-inch sample of a stone with a 24-inch format tells you almost nothing useful.

What a sample can't tell you

Three things, all of which decide whether the wall works:

  • Repeat. A single piece has no repeat. A wall does. Ask how many formats a collection carries — under four and it will visibly pattern on anything larger than a fireplace.
  • Light absorption. Textured stone eats light. In a room with one window a dark relief wall measurably dims the space, and clients notice the room feels smaller without knowing why.
  • Scale. Coursing that looks refined in your hand can look oversized on a 36-inch island or undersized in a double-height space.

We'll tell you which collections have these problems for your specific room. It's more useful than agreeing with whatever you've already picked.

The lighting conversation

This is the one that most affects the finished result and it's usually had too late. Relief materials live entirely on shadow. Front lighting removes shadow.

If the wall can be grazed — a linear fitting tight to the surface, above or below — deep relief is spectacular. If the lighting is already committed to downlights in the middle of the room, specify shallow texture and spend the difference elsewhere. The same panel is either the best thing in the room or a beige disappointment depending purely on this.

Finishing the scheme

Our architectural elements — planters, tables, lanterns — are pressed from the same mix and can be colour-matched to the cladding. Specifying the terrace planters from the same batch as the wall is a small decision that removes the slightly-off greys that undermine otherwise good exterior schemes.

Working with us

Send the room, the light conditions, and the direction you're heading. You'll get a shortlist and full-size samples the same week, plus an honest note about anything in the shortlist we think will underperform in that specific space.

Common questions

How quickly can I get samples for a client presentation? +

Same week within South Florida, free. Tell us the collections and we'll send full-size pieces rather than chips — a 4-inch chip tells a client almost nothing about how a wall will read.

Which finishes photograph best? +

Shallow relief under controlled light, and deep relief under grazing light. What photographs badly is deep relief lit from the front — it goes flat and muddy. If the shoot matters, plan the lighting with the material.

Can I get a custom colour for one residential project? +

Usually not economically — custom colours carry a minimum quantity that a single house rarely reaches. The stock range is broad, and we'd rather find you a close match than sell you a minimum you don't need.

Do you work with the contractor or with me? +

Whichever you prefer. Plenty of designers specify with us and hand the order to the GC. Others buy direct to keep control of the spec. Both are fine.
