Warm limestone-toned stone cladding on a water feature wall in Miami

Stone Appearance

Mediterranean Stone

Warm, sun-bleached faces in long formats — including a 59-inch panel that covers ground faster than anything else in the range.

South Florida has been building Mediterranean revival for a century, and the look isn't going anywhere. Miami Stone Veneer Specialists stocks four faces in this range, all in the warm, slightly bleached limestone tones that sit right under this light.

Why the long formats matter more than they sound

Cancun II comes in three lengths, the longest just under five feet. That sounds like a detail until you price the labour. A mason setting 59-inch pieces covers a wall roughly three times faster than one setting 20-inch pieces, and on a 2,000 square foot commercial elevation that difference outweighs any price gap in the material itself.

It's why we push the long formats hard for boundary walls, commercial facades, and anywhere the elevation is long and uninterrupted. On a fussy residential front with lots of openings, the advantage disappears — you end up cutting most of them anyway.

The column problem

Mediterranean architecture means columns, and columns are where veneer usually looks cheap. Cut a flat panel into wedges to follow a curve and you get a faceted, polygonal column that reads wrong from ten feet away.

The Curved piece is cast to a radius. It wraps properly. It costs more per square foot than field stone and there's no substitute for it, so budget the column area separately when you're pricing the job.

Cost

$10 to $16 per square foot for the field stone. Curved pieces run considerably higher per square foot — send us the column diameters and count and we'll price them properly rather than guessing.

Mediterranean Stone — formats and sizes

Common questions

How long is the longest Mediterranean format? +

Cancun II runs to 59 1/16 inches — just under five feet in a single piece. On a long boundary wall or a commercial elevation that changes the labour cost substantially, because your installer is placing a third as many pieces.

What's the Curved piece for? +

Columns, rounded wall ends, and bullnose returns. It's a radiused 15¾ by 7 1/16-inch piece that wraps a curve properly instead of being cut into wedges. If your elevation has a round column, order these at the same time as the field stone.

Does the warm colour fade in Miami sun? +

Not meaningfully, because the colour is through the body rather than sprayed on. What does happen without a sealer is chalking on the surface after three or four summers, which dulls it. A penetrating sealer at install and again around year seven keeps it looking new.

Will Mediterranean I and II mix on the same wall? +

They will, and it's a good way to break up a big elevation. Keep Mediterranean II for the larger fields and use Mediterranean I where you need to work around openings.
